I'm walking 200km this June to raise funds for Breast Cancer Trials.
They are currently raising funds for a new drug to treat Triple Negative Breast Cancer which is the same type that I was diagnosed with at the end of March.
This new drug is supposed to be a lot less invasive with fewer long term side affects (which is currently quite a long and harsh list).
Did you know, a normal mammogram isn't enough if your breasts are dense. Dense tissue and cancer both show up white, so ask what your breast density is and whether you need more than the scan. I went for mammograms every 12 months, the cancer never showed up and I went on as normal. It was only when I noticed a change in my nipple, that I went straight to my GP. She referred me for a contrast mammogram, ultra sound and biopsy. Results - stage 3 triple negative breast cancer. It does not state in your mammogram results, to get further tests if you have dense breasts. It is so important to advocate for yourself to get the additional tests, if you have dense breasts.
56 people are diagnosed with breast cancer every day in Australia. It's heart-breaking.
I'm walking to raise funds for Breast Cancer Trials to find new and better treatments and prevention strategies for every person affected by breast cancer to save lives today, tomorrow and forever.
