Walking around books!

An indoor walk this morning  at the Life line Bookfest! Books, Comics, Books, Games and  Books and more books. We found a few treasures. What an amazing fundraising event! Needless to say a few laps of the veranda were necessary to get my steps up today.

Two days to go!

Only two days to go! Only $32 off $500. My goal was $300. Thank you for your support!  Today, after an early morning visit to the airport for one last hug from our big boy we headed home... via Esk.Nothing is better that a walk around  one of my favourite places with so  MANY precious family memories.... Grandma, Grandad and loads of uncles, aunties and cousins. Family get togethers and a number of special church services. Christenings, weddings and funerals.

Brighton and Sandgate.

We ventured to the NORTHSIDE!  😂 I must admit not many of my steps were recorded at Brighton but oh what a lovely spot. Followed by fish and chips at Sandgate. A lovely part of the world. Plenty of cuddles and snuggles spending time with beautiful bubby and big brother.  Exhausted by just watching a 2 year old dynamo. Had to finish the day doing laps of the veranda. As well as raising money for this so worthwhile cause I am getting my walking going again. Thanks for the support! Every little bit helps.

Visiting the past

After our regular walk around Berrinba Wetlands we headed for the city once again. A favourite historical site is the McArthur Museum in the Mc Arthur Chambers on the corner of Queen and Edward Sts. It is a small museum but very interesting. I usually focus on a couple of displays. Today I read an account about the American Soldiers in Brisbane, written by a lady who brought home a couple of American brothers 22 and 19 years old she met on the tram. They became regular visitors with one lad keen on the lady's older sister. Both boys were killed in Pearl Harbour.

Walking at the backroads.

I was early for Mum today and she was off to the hairdressers so with about an hour to kill I hit the side road near Mums.. that was after making it across Moggill Road... I felt like I had walked into another zone. Most of the walk bordered the University of Queensland grounds. Just fields. Only two cars passed me on the road. Tall gum trees. Unfortunately I saw no koalas but I am sure they were there hiding from me.  So green. Up hill and down. A beautiful little stream. I stopped to check for a platypus. No. Oh well. What a special spot and so close to the city. I walked further than I thought and poor Mum was waiting when I got back ready for some retail therapy at Mt Ommaney. Another lovely morning with my special Mum. The photo is of an amazing letter box I saw. Someone very clever lives at that house.

Weekend walking in the city ...

An early morning walk in the Roma Street Parklands is always a good start to the day especially when you get a call from your grandson as you are walking around. Planting of little annuals at the gardens has taken place so on the way home we stopped at Mitre 10 for some flower seedlings. Petunias.  Home by around 9:30 am, I spent the morning in our garden. Rain was predicted for Sunday so fingers crossed they will have a good start.

Berrinba Again

It's Friday and Berrinba Wetlands is on our radar again. What a beautiful day. Thankfully I have never had breast cancer and never want to but I had a scare once. The children were young. I had my first mammogram and we were heading to NZ for a 10 day break. The day before we were due to leave I got a call from the Breast Screening people telling me I needed to get back for further tests asap. As we were flying out the next day the further investigation needed to wait and we flew out to NZ. The days were fine but in the early hours I would lay awake thinking of how my children would cope without me.. as Pat's children had had to. I hung or clung onto verse Psalm 46:10. On my return I went for a further check. The mass they saw was just a thickening but underneath it deep down was something else. So I was booked in for surgery. A wire was inserted into my breast to guide the surgeon and under the general anaesthetic I went. Thankfully it was a non cancerous papilloma. Thank you God. Funding research into cancer is never a waste of time and every little bit helps.

Wow!

Thank you so much to those who have supported this worthwhile cause.I have surpassed the $300 target. Every little bit helps. Today most of my walking was done around our veranda. I wonder if eventually we will wear a track in the cement. Our suburb is not really walkable so my go to spot for a quick walk is checking out our yard. A good way to identify new projects, or make quick repairs and changes. It also helps me appreciate what we have and notice those special little spots.

Back to Berrinba

What beaut weather for walking. The recent rain has left everything fresh and the dry weather has brought out the small birds. I love the feel of the tree lined paths which seem to challenge you to look around the next bend. This walk is not far from the motor way but feels like it is in the middle of nowhere. I hope one day the mountain across from where we live has walking paths. Walking gives a person time to think and time to clear the brain. Is it possible to do both these things? Maybe research into breast and other cancers will see a future where like the insidious diseases of the past we will be able to prevent instead of needing to treat the results. The cause(s) identified? A vaccine? Every little bit helps.

Brisbane walking- up hill and down dale.

We started with a lovely early morning walk in the Brisbane botanical gardens followed by a beaut coffee at Bon Choix. Love to look at the amazing pastries and cakes. Maybe one day I'll even try one. I think it will be a Pain au Chocolat. One day. THEN we decided to go to the Paddington Antique markets. We had an hour to kill so went for a walk. Mountain goat country but beautiful homes including Government House on Fernberg Rd. The back yards wouldn't be much good for a cricket match. Amazing views of the city though! Very exciting to see my fundraising goal has been reached. Every little bit helps though.

Around Springwood

Part of our walk today was while waiting for a meeting at Springwood. This beautiful garden is quite a find outside a small business complex.

A busy day around town.

Lots of running around today doing jobs. I parked the car and walked as much as I could. I surprised myself by the distance I travelled. Then coffee with dear friends to finish the day.

A day. out with Mum.

Plenty of walking while treasure hunting in the cheap shop at Bellbowrie. 😜 I treasure my time with Mum. We always have fun. A girls day and then lunch at the Busy Bee and Pinjarra Hills. Had a few laps to do when I got home to make up the goal.

Walking in Montville

As our car began making it up the range. We disappeared into the clouds. Only as we came into Montville did the clouds clear. Walking around Montville was balanced with some retail therapy and a tiny bit - bits of chocolate coated Ginger.

Walking is always lovely during or after rain.

The day began with a lovely walk between showers through Berrinba Wetlands. Everything looks better with rain. After lunch a couple of hours waiting for work to be done on my car was spent walking around Mazda, once again avoiding showers. I love that I have the time and good health  to do this walk. Every little bit helps.

Early days

Every day is a blessing. I am trying to increase my walking to reach the target. I love walking but making time especially with busy mornings and short days I need to apply myself to the task. Today we walked at the Springwood Conservation Park. What a treasure!

Support my walk for breast cancer to help save lives.

This June, I'm taking part in The Big Bold Walk to support breast cancer research and save lives.

Did you know that 56 people are diagnosed with breast cancer every day in Australia? It's heart-breaking.

I'm walking to raise funds for Breast Cancer Trials to find new and better treatments and prevention strategies for every person affected by breast cancer to save lives today, tomorrow and forever.

Please support me now by sponsoring my challenge. Every dollar helps.

Together, we can move closer to a world where NO MORE lives are cut short by breast cancer.

Thank you so much.
