FAQs
The Challenge
What is The Big Bold Swim?
The Big Bold Swim is a month-long swimming challenge throughout March. You can choose to swim 2km, 15km or 30km (or a goal of your choice) across the month for the 58 people who are diagnosed with breast cancer every day in Australia.
How much does it cost to take part?
Entry is FREE! Simply sign up now for The Big Bold Swim, and join us to raise funds for breast cancer research to help save lives.
Do I have to swim every day?
Not at all. You set a goal for the month and then you decide how and when you want to swim to achieve your goal. You could swim each day, a few days a week, or complete bigger swims on the weekends... it's completely up to you.
How long do I have to complete the challenge?
The challenge starts on 1st March and ends on 31st March. You can complete your challenge at any time throughout the month.
How do I log my laps?
Once you sign up, you will be able to access your own personal swim dashboard where you can log your activity throughout the challenge. You can also mark your daily kms on your activity tracker (included in your pack when you get your first online donation or available to download in the Facebook Group). We also recommend sharing regular updates in the Facebook Group.
I'm not an experienced swimmer, can I take part?
Yes, you can. Set a realistic goal based on your experience, water confidence and fitness level, and take it at your own pace. If you're unsure, set yourself a lower goal to start (e.g. 2km across the month) and then see how you feel once you start swimming... because you can always increase your swim goal in March.
What if I start logging laps before March?
Practice makes perfect! On March 1, all kilometres will be reset across all fundraising pages so everyone can officially start the challenge together.
Fundraising
Do I have to fundraise?
We're asking everyone to try and raise funds through their challenge to support breast cancer research. Every dollar counts to find better treatments and prevention strategies to help save lives.
How can I share my fundraising page?
Go to your page and click the 'Share my page’, 'Send an email' buttons or ‘Get Support’ page to ask your friends to support your challenge.
When will my fundraising page close?
Your fundraising page will close on April 30, so you have plenty of time to raise funds for people impacted by breast cancer.
Can I update my fundraising goal?
Absolutely! Simply select ‘Edit My Page’ and you can update your personal fundraising goal.
Donations
My friend cannot donate online, how can they support my challenge?
Your friend can give you a cash donation and then you can make the donation online yourself through your fundraising page on their behalf. When making the donation, you will just need to ensure their details are added (first name, last name & email address) so the donor will then receive the donation receipt directly for taxation purposes.
Are donations tax deductible?
Yes, all donations in Australia over $2 are tax deductible. If friends donate from other countries, it will depend on the regulations in their country.
How do I get a receipt for a donation?
Your receipt will be sent to the email address entered when making the donation.
Merchandise
How do I get a FREE swim cap?
When you get your first online donation (on your fundraising page) to support breast cancer research, you'll receive an exclusive FREE swim cap to wear throughout your challenge.
I've not received my swim cap?
Please allow at least 10 business days to receive your cap and tracker. If you've still not received your pack after this time, send us a direct message on Facebook and we'll be able to help you.
